| Hormone Balance Assessment(s) : A comprehensive overview of your sex, adrenal and thyroid (optional) hormones from a 24 hour urine anlalyses. An important window of evaluation for both men and women. Assessing physiological levels of hormones, is useful for anti-aging strategies, low libido, fatigue, anxiety and depression problems in both sexes. For men, it provides vital information about hormone imbalances related to libido and prostate problems. For women, hormone evaluations can provide invaluable insight into irregular menses, PMS and menopause problems. Hormone testing can provide invaluable information about a woman's difficulty with conceiving or maintaining a pregnacy. The hormone connection to Fibrocystic Breasts Disease, and Polycystic Ovarian Disease is well documented and easily remedied with natural interventions. For both women and men on hormone replacement therapy, hormone evaluations are necessary to gauge and monitor the adequacy of treatment. WHY USE URINE TESTING? Urine testing is my preferred method for hormone analyses. The measurement of urine and salivary hormones reflect the free nonprotein-bound fractions of circulating hormones. Blood (serum) assessments reflect the pool of hormones that are both biologically inactive, the bound fractions, and the biologically active "free" fractions. Only in the case of testosterone, does blood allow for a window into what is considered the free, or biologically active fraction. If you want a comprehensive evaluation of what your body is producing in a typical day, the urinary hormone levels best reflects normal physiologic processes. Only by assessing through a 24 hour window into the body's production and metabolism of hormones, can you adequately gather a reasonable impression as to how an individual's endocrine system is functioning. A salivary assessment, aside from the Adrenal Stress Test, does not give you that, nor does a blood evaluation. They are only "snapshots" taken at any given point in the day. Saliva and blood evaluations do not provide information about the metabolic pathways of those hormones. For example, estrogen gets converted to several estrogen "metabolites" (hydroxy-methoxy estrogens), that at certain levels and ratios are considered risk factors for certain cancers in women. The metabolism of these estrogens is dependent on liver detoxification pathways and the nutrional factors that influence them. A very potent cruciferous vegetable extract, DIM, is able to very favorably influence the healthy levels and balance of these estrogen metabolites. How would you ever know without testing? For women with a history of breast cancer in the family, or who are taking estrogen laden birth control pills, this testing is in my opinion indispensable.
