Amino acids are the fundamental building blocks of proteins. They are also necessary for growth and development, formation of hormones, neurotransmitters, and enzymes, and promotion of wound healing and muscle function. Metaplex contains 15 free-form amino acids, including the branched-chain amino acids leucine, isoleucine, and valine that are anabolic and essential as skeletal muscle fuel. Metaplex also contains glycine, glutamic acid, and cysteine, the three components of glutathione, the essential liver detoxifier and cellular antioxidant. Alpha-ketoglutaric acid, the citric acid (Krebs) cycle intermediate, is included for its sparing effects on muscle amino acid concentrations. Ferulic acid is included for its potent antioxidant activity.
