Proteolytic enzymes are enzymes that break down proteins. Not all proteases, however, can break down all proteins. For example, a protease that is an effective digester of food protein will not be a good protease for mucous protein. The mucous protein requires an enzyme classified as proteolytic and mucolytic (breaks down mucous).
Mucous is a beneficial protein created by the body to protect vital organs and bind up pathogens for removal from the body. The purpose of
SPS is to support normal mucous function while helping to speed the breakdown and removal of inappropriate mucous. Mucolase (TM) is a proteolytic enzyme that has mucolytic properties, meaning it targets and hydrolyzes inappropriate or excess mucous. Mucolytic enzymes shorten the long chains of mucoproteins, making it easier for the body to expectorate and clear the mucous from the body.
Because Mucolase comes from the proteolytic family of enzymes it helps to reduce inflammation and support the immune system by hydrolyzing dead and damaged proteins. Mucolase may also have an effect on proteins that do not belong, such as bacterial infections or viral loads.
SPS is a blend of proteolytic enzymes and carbohydrases to help reduce the effects of histamine-induced inflammation.
